Peter Jackson’s documentary The Beatles: Get Back delayed till 2021

Peter Jackson’s long-awaited Beatles documentary, The Beatles: Get Back, has been delayed until 2021, according to its worldwide distributor Disney.

The film had originally been scheduled for release on 4 September 2020, but will now come out on 27 August 2021. The delay is due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, which has left many cinemas unable to operate.

The Beatles in Apple Studios, January 1969

The Beatles: Get Back features rare and never before seen footage from The Beatles’ January 1969 recording sessions for the Let It Be album, including their final live performance on the Apple rooftop.

A new hardcover book, titled Get Back, is still scheduled for publicaton by Callaway Arts & Entertainment on 1 September 2020 in the USA, and 15 October in the UK.

There is, as yet, no news on the much-anticipated reissue of the original Let It Be film, or a 50th anniversary release of the album. The 1970 film was to be re-released after Jackson’s documentary, but the effect of the schedule change is not known. The original press release stated: “A fully restored version of the original “Let It Be” film will be made available at a later date.”
